Canada is considered the third-largest manufacturer of video games worldwide as well as a creative hot spot - a place where bestsellers are created and talents are forged. Investors have long since discovered this country for themselves, which boasts a high degree of innovation and development power. gamescom will be presenting Canada's games industry in Hall 4.2, thereby building an international bridge to the North American market. Among others, the provinces of Nova Scotia, Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec and Ontario will be presenting themselves.
Hit games such as Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Need for Speed and EA Sports FIFA have one thing in common; they come from Canada. Nearly 20 percent of all blockbuster hits sold in the United States alone were developed here, with leading game manufacturers such as Electronic Arts and Ubisoft setting up shop in Canada. Whether it's console games, casual games, educational software, mobile phone games or animation tools - Canadian companies are active throughout the games industry and feed into every link of the value chain. The growing significance of the games industry was recognised in Canada early on and the foundations were laid accordingly; through targeted business development and the establishment of training offers in the games industry, Canada has created innovation centres for digital media in its major cities. Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal, for example, have important film and video clusters that offer an ideal working environment for game software and digital media companies, game development and distribution companies, tool manufacturers and animation studios. Canada's games industry now has over 260 companies and 9,000 qualified specialists. 60 universities offer special courses of study in the games industry and intensively foster the next generation of creative talent. Investors value the expertise of Canadian companies for the entire digital multimedia spectrum - from animation, visual effects and post-production to web marketing and business solutions all the way to education and training as well as video and computer games, platforms and hardware. From 18 - 22 August 2010, Canada will be present as a guest at the Cologne trade fair grounds as the first partner country of gamescom. Canadian companies in the games industry will be presenting themselves in the business area in Hall 4.2. As the largest trade fair and event highlight for interactive games and entertainment, gamescom provides a trend-setting arena for international industry dialogue.
